RELEASE NR.01/UNITA/ MEMORANDUM ON NON-COMPLIANCE BY THE MPLA 1975-1998 CARTA ABERTA AOS POVOS DE EXPRESSÃO PORTUGUESA
| Quem Somos (Who we are)Somos militantes da UNITA , União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angola e, após estes sete anos em que vimos o nosso Partido bombardeado com permanentes Sanções, impostas pela ONU, sentimos o dever de nos perguntarmos e de questionarmos a Opinião Pública Internacional se estas Sanções provaram mais que não seja serem lenha que alimenta o lume desta 3ª Guerra Civil que nos assola. Na verdade, um dos problemas centrais do conflito Angolano tem sido a parcialidade com que as duas partes têm sido tratadas. Parcialidade que, hoje, se torna ruidosa perante o silêncio que sobre nós é, imoral e ilegalmente, imposto. E porque entendemos ter o Direito à Defesa, porque entendemos que urge dar voz à UNITA, porque hoje não estamos a ser ouvidos em nenhuma instância internacional, porque ninguém pode falar em nosso nome, entendemos assumir a voz da UNITA. Temos mandato para tal. Temos mandato para entender defender, internacionalmente, que é justo considerar que, como parte do problema Angolano que a UNITA é e como acusada que é, tem o direito de exigir ter a oportunidade de se explicar. E, sobretudo, entendemos ser urgente mostrar à Comunidade Internacional que é essencial que surja um espaço de diálogo responsável que permita inverter esta via da violência imposta por esta 3ª Guerra Civil que o Mpla impôs, que alimenta somente a corrupção e o totalitarismo. Angola está em risco de morrer e tal nós não o desejamos, patriotas que somos. Como diz o comunicado da Comissão Permanente da UNITA, de 27.12.99, " A Pátria Angolana está a perder-se nos negócios, na corrupção, na irresponsabilidade e na violência gratuita", pelo que urge mostrar ao Mundo que existem Angolanos que querem para Angola um Estado Democrático e de Direito, Justiça Social, Paz e Desenvolvimento Económico. Estamos, perante a gravidade da situação vivida por nós milhões de Angolanos, a anunciar a criação da Comissão de Justiça, Paz e Reconciliação em Angola. Estamos confiantes no bom senso e estamos certos que seremos ouvidos. Adalberto

we are
We
are militants of UNITA – National Union for the Total Independence of Angola
– who have watched our party being bombed by the permanent Sanctions of the
UN, for seven consecutive years. Now we feel the duty of asking the
International Public Opinion and ourselves if the Sanctions have proved to be
anything more than ashes feeding the fire of this 3rd Civil War. Actually,
one of the central problems of the Angolan conflict is the partiality with which
both parties have been dealt with. This Partiality is crying out for the end of
the illegal and immoral silence that has been imposed on us. It
is urgent to give back UNITA’s voice, for we believe in the Right of Defense.
No International instance would hear us now, so we’re taking back our voice
because no one can speak for us. We
have a mandate to do that. We have a mandate to defend, internationally, what we
think is fair for UNITA, being an integral part of the Angolan problem. Before
the things UNITA is being accused of, we have the right to demand being heard in
order to defend ourselves. We
believe that it is essential to show the International Community the urgency of
building a space for dialogue. A responsible dialogue that would allow turning
our backs on the path of violence the Mpla’s Civil War has taken, only helping
corruption and totalitarianism. Angola
is facing death and, patriots that we are, we’ll do anything to stop it. The
official report of the Permanent Commission, of the 27th of December of 1999,
states, “The Angolan Motherland is loosing itself amidst corruption,
businesses, irresponsibility and free violence”. Therefore we must show the
World that there are Angolan that dream of a Democratic State of Righteousness,
Social Justice and Economical Development. Before
the grave situations millions of Angolans are facing, we are announcing the
creation of the Commission for Justice, Peace and Reconciliation on Angola. We
are confident of everyone’s good sense and we know we shall be heard. Adalberto

A nossa Missão (Our Mission)Com
ela pretendemos mostrar que a UNITA defende, hoje como sempre, a necessidade da
Paz para Angola e para os Angolanos, sem excluídos, e feita a partir de um diálogo sobre as profundas causas políticas
subjacentes ao conflito Angolano que permita atingir a Reconciliação entre
Angolanos.Promover todas as iniciativas e contactos que reforcem, na Opinião Pública
e nas instâncias internacionais, a urgência do diálogo para a busca da Paz
para Angola. Exigiremos,
ainda, ser ouvidos nas Nações Unidas, certos que estamos que nenhum processo
de Paz se faz com a exclusão de uma das partes, a pontos de esta nem ser ouvida,
perante acusações que são feitas
sem provas, ou perante o esquecimento deliberado de provas. Estamos confiantes no bom senso e estamos certos que seremos ouvidos. Adalberto

Mission
As
ever, UNITA stands up for the need of Peace in Angola and the Angolan people. A
peace built through dialogue, where no one’s left out. We must find the deep
causes of the Angolan conflict to achieve the Reconciliation between Angolan. We
demand to be heard by the United Nations, for no peace process can happen with
the exclusion of one of the parts involved. Before the empty accusations and the
intentional negligence towards evidences, we must be allowed to speak. Our
confident of everyone’s good sense and certain that we shall be heard. Adalberto
